Too often, ham radio operators go off into the wilderness with equipment that is too heavy, needs too much power and they carry extravagant antennas. Dennis Blanchard, K1YPP, reviews what has been historically popular and examines what he has found to work best with today's technology.

Filmed on location, out in the woods (with local "QRM"), at the Red Bug Slough, Sarasota, Florida. Dennis backpacked his gear into this natural setting to give a sense of what it is like to take a journey with ham radio equipment.

Dennis can often be found on 40M CW with his backpack radio. Look for him in the summer of 2014 as he wanders Europe researching his next book, Where Dad Dropped In, a story about his 82nd Airborne paratrooper father's WW II story. See http://WhereDadDroppedIn.com/

I've had some requests about the Whiterook keys, they can be found at: http://electronicsusa.com/mk64.html
