Punxsutawney 2012 Special Event Ham Radio Event
This is a video shot at the Special Event station in Punxsutawney. Special Event is a term used in Ham Radio noting events such as this or Light House Special Events where hams near the various lighthouses around the country get together once a year and set up a station at the lighthouse to operate that station for the world to come in and share the experience of that event, that place, those hams. Hams have been involved in humanitarian causes for over a century. Hams can use their radios when tornados, floods, hurricanes, and other disasters have neutralized those modern, but dependent on a system communications. Hams only need their radio, a car battery and an antenna to keep the world moving. These special events are those same hams who saved the world and are also showcasing an event in their home state, city, and shared it with the world during these Special Events. Some folks confuse CB radio with Ham Radio ... not even close. Hams must learn regulations, electronic theory and practical use such as circuit design and radio operation and safety, as they can transmit up to 2000 watts due to their competence, while the CB operator is limited to 5 watts by law. Hams have developed a lot of the new technologies you are used to ... texting, computer digital communications, different forms of modulation, and so much more. A majority of our astronauts for example, are ham radio operators since childhood!

Certificates, QSL cards (similar to post cards) with photo images are sent to confirmed contacts as a memory of their contact(s). It is a good thing done by good people...

Enjoy our world, the world of hams
