| Biography Coming April 24, 2022 - The 56th Annual West Point Camporee
Radio Scouting will be operating a special event station using the call W2P live from the midway at the 56th Annual Boy Scout Camporee at the US Military Academy at West Point, New York.
West Point Military Academy has been hosting an invitational Camporee for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts since 1962, offering skill training and challenges to Scouts and their volunteer leaders unequaled anywhere else. Many of the challenge stations are scaled down versions of what the Cadets experience daily in their training as tomorrow's leaders.
This will be the very first Amateur Radio Station operating at this event and we are very proud to have been asked to do it as guests of the Ten Mile River Scout Museum, headquartered at the Ten Mile River Scout Reservation in Narrowsburg, NY.
The TMRSM has participated in the WPC (West Point Camporee) for the last six years ans after the success of SES W2T at the 90th anniversary of TMR they asked if we, some members of the Kings County Radio Club (KCRC) in Brooklyn NY, would like to set up at this Camporee. Well, we of course jumped at it and are already preparing for a fantastic day of Scouting, Radio and some good old fun in the field.
Be sure to tune us in and say hello. Tell us your Scouting stories, you Military experiences and how Radio may have played a part in either of those aspects of your life. As a bonus, you will become part of US History after making a contact with the Innaugural Camporee Radio Station. We certainly look forward to many more years of activation at the Camporees but this is the First One, Ever, so this event card will be a treasured collector's item for years to come.
This IS NOT a contest nor are we any rare DX station so don't expect the common "59/73 - Next please" kind of operation. We are there for the Scouts and the Cadets to learn about the world of Amateur Radio and have fun. Sure, we want to make many contacts but there is no prize, now award, just the pleasure of doing it.
We'll be on the bands with the best propagation at the time from 6 through 80 meters including WARC frequencies as conditions allow.
If anyone in the NY / NJ / CT area wants to join us and operate for a while, please do. Local Repeater info will be posted once under way to aid in "Talking In" any visitors.
QSL INFO:
** Those making the contact can request the special one-of-a-kind QSL Card shown above by simply sending one of yours with an SASE to the QSL manager shown. Please, DO NOT SEND CARDS TO THE ACADEMY, they will likely go into the "Round File" we affectionately call the garbage can. |
