Biography

Hi from the S Pacific

Thanks for looking me up. We may have had a recent QSO on 1 of my Magloop's. Thank you for that contact. My name is Mike. I love sailing, fishing and just being outdoors.( Needless to say...I am an All Black rugby fan as well ) .I've been involved with radio since the late 70's beginning on the 11m citizen radio band and had lots of fun doing that. After immigrating to New Zealand and settling in I decided to obtain my Amateur Radio licence and with the encouragement from ZL2KCW and the excellent help and support of ZL4AA here we are at last!

My main HF radio is : Kenwood TS-590 powered by a 30A supply.Next to all this is a homebrew Antenna tuner used when I had dipole antennas up.. I am waiting with excited anticipation for my IC-7300 on order and its coming in the next few weeks.

My new antennas are various home brew mono band Magloop antennas tuned for the 80m,60m,40m,20m,15m/17m,10m HF bands and recently I have added a VHF J-Pole and a UHF J-pole. For 60m Tx I use only 15W max on the dual 60m/80m magloop & 100W when tx'n on 80m .I have relocated to Dunedin in Dec 2014 from Kerikeri in the Bay of Islands in the Far north of NZ and built and installed all the antennas. for your info here are some details of what they are. ( I would have used one of them to talk to you )

Main antennas all homebrew :

60m/80m Twin magloop.

40m Twin magloop monoband

20m single monoband

15m/17m Single dual band

10m single monoband

The antenna's are manually rotatable which is a real pleasure after using fixed dipoles for years. For VHF ( 2m) and UHF ( 70cm ) work I use a mobile magnetic mount antenna stuck on the metal roof and its connected to my Zastone Z218 VHF/UHF radio ( also known as BaoJie bj218) . I also use a portable dual band radio called a Baofung UV-5RA when I am just strolling around. I am also setup for Echolink and enjoying exploring this medium when the band conditions are poor.

Equipment

My current rigs are a Kenwood TS-590 and an Icom IC-7300

DX Code Of Conduct

dx code of conduct small logoI support the "DX Code Of Conduct" to help to work with each other and not each against the others on the bands.
