Biography
Kia ora and welcome,
A bit about me...
I have been a radio ham since 1982 when I sat and passed my City and Guilds exam in the U.K. and held the call G6RFB and got my first 2M SSB radio a Yaesu FT480R which I used as my home base radio and mobile. My UK callsign is now G0RSJ
I immigrated to South Africa in 1984 and held the callsign ZR6RR until I passed my CW exam in 1992 and changed my callsign to ZS6RJ. My first HF radio was an Icom 735, a Mosley TA33, and a 40-foot tilt-over tower. After 17years in South Africa, I immigrated to New Zealand in 2001. I no longer have the call ZS6RJ and it has been re-issued, but held that call from 1992 to 2001
After having a break from amateur radio, I got interested again in 2010 when I joined the Papakura Radio Club, branch 65.
My New Zealand callsigns currently are ZL1RJS that I use for VHF/UHF, local repeaters, etc and I have a secondary callsign of ZL3RS which you will only find me on the HF bands using this callsign.
I have several HF radios including the now vintage radios Yaesu FT-101, FT-101E, and FT-101ZD radios.
My latest HF radio addition is the Icom IC-7300 and tri-band Icom IC-7900 2m /70cm and 1296 all mode base station radio.
The HF antenna is a diamond CP6 vertical antenna about 23 meters above sea level.
The 2m/70cm Antenna is a dual band vertical antenna Comet CP9.
The 1296 Antenna is a Comet SBB123 Vertical whip.
Digital modes I am on Echolink 55589 and Allstar, node number 45481
