Biography

I sat  my  licence in 1958 and received the call ZL1API. We had to do 12wpm cw for the basic licence,  this allowed me to operate on 160, 80 & 2 meters up. About 10yrs later I sat my HF permit, had to do 15wpm cw, allowing me to then operate on 40, 20, 15 & 10 meters.

My first rig was a war surplus ZC1 mk2 (http://zc1-radioclub.org.nz/page2.html ) it had an 80 and 40 meter transceiver running about 5 watts into a windom antenna.  On vhf I ran a  homemade 2 meter transmitter and converter with a 6 over 6 skeleton slot antenna.
.

There's been a number of periods of inactivity over the years but now active on 80,40 and 20 meters with an old Yeasu FT 101B. A Yeasu FT227Rb on 2 meters and a  Beofeng UV-5R on 70cm national repeater system.

There is plans for a better antenna system, with about 8 acres (3.2 hectares) to play with, but in the meantime running a OCF dipole at 10 meters.
