Biography

Started SWL in 1970s as a boy. I loved listening to WWV, Deutsche Welle, and Radio South Africa as I learned about digital electronics and microprocessors. Finally licensed as KC4TNM in 1990 and worked CW QRP on Heathkit HW-8 for years. Now doing HF (mostly digital), satellite, and weak signal on VHF/UHF. The kids get a kick out of seeing me on the radio.

All the learning paid off because now I do software work for Microsoft, Infosys, SAP, and Amazon, among others.

This video really hits the spot!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpCUqlChnk4

Equipment

HF: Yaesu FT-847 to KPA-500 to MN-2000 Antenna tuner. G7FEK inverted L in back yard.
VHF/UHF: Arrow dual-yagi antenna on (cheap!) Radio Shack rotor in the attic. Fantastic SP-7000 preamp from SSB Electronic for UHF.
Times Microwave feedline regularly in use. I'm probably too fanatical, but from my QRP days, I am a big believer in top quality feedline. I am trying to squeeze every 0.1 dB out of the system! Does this help for FT8?
