Biography

I live in Arapahoe, near New Bern NC on the Pamlico Sound with the real Dawson Creek in the back yard! It great for antennas - only neighbor is 1/4 mi. away and brackish water! No stop lights and one stop sign! It's a traffic jam if two cars see each other.

I enjoy all aspects of Ham Radio, but especially chasing DX and Contesting (CW and RTTY). Member of Carolina DX Association and Carolina Shine Contest Club. Carolina Shine is a small local club of hams interested in CW and RTTY contesting. Work us on the bands under our club call, NC4CS (North Carolina 4 Carolina Shine).

I was able to visit many different countries before retiring from the Marines after 21 years. Its nice to revisit them through the radio. I look forward to working you down the bands! Adios from Arapahoe where the moon shines over the water in jars...

Equipment

My station includes two completely independent positions to allow Carolina Shine to operate Multi-two in major contests.

Rigs are an Elecraft K3 and a Yaesu FT-2000. Rigs are controlled by separate computers and each station has two dedicated monitors.

The antenna farm is built around a Lightning Bolt 5-band, 2-element quad at 72 feet. Low band antennas includes an Array Solutions Off-Center Dipole, a 43' vertical with about 60 buried radials and an inverted L for 160M.

Any antenna can be routed to any radio using a matrix switch provided by an Array Solutions 6-Pak and Rat-Pak.
