Biography
I've joined the 2026 Bouvet DXpedition team 3y0k.com!
I passed my Technician license exam when I was 17 but got much more involved in Amateur Radio once I had my Extra class license. I finally got a 7 land call after I moved to Montana in 2020. I enjoying contesting, DXing, and portable operations.
My professional background is in software and security engineering on Unix systems. I'm fluent in Terraform, Python, C/C++, Java, and X86 ASM. I've worked for Yahoo, Facebook, Twitter, Oracle, and Salesforce.
My station at home is a modest SteppIR 6-40m vertical with a few hundred foot hill blocking my takeoff to EU and NAE. To compensate I put my effort into portable operations, especially during domestic contests. I run a Flex 8600 with a PGXL amplifier and yes, I do take them out to do POTA sometimes. I also have an IC705 with a 250w amp in my truck.
For portable/POTA operations I have an enclosed snowmobile trailer where I operate from. I have 4 portable antennas I use when contesting so I can operate SO2R and 2BSIQ. With the Flex radio filters, physical separation, and antennas not sharing resonant bands I don't have interference problems.
I'm a member of the Caribbean Contesting Consortium which is the club that owns PJ2T http://www.pj2t.org/ where my goal is to make it out at least once a year. You might find me operating as PJ2/W7EY outside of contesting from time to time. For more photos of PJ2T check out my other QRZ page PJ2/W7EY
Outside of Amateur Radio I'm an avid snowmobiler, skiier, mountain biker, dirt biker, and horse rider. I'm currently training my new Lusitano colt but my primary riding/skijoring horse is an American Quarter Horse.
