Biography

Hey fellow Hams and passers-by. W4QXL here! The name is Logan Carmichael (yeah, I know it says "Fredrick" on the license , but unless there's a bank check with money involved or you're the IRS, FCC, CIA, FBI, etc., I prefer and go by my middle name -- Logan!

I live in Guild, TN along the banks of the Tennessee River at Nickajack Lake, and work in Special Education for the public schools and also in the broadcast end of the radio realm both on air and as a contract broadcast engineer for several small market AM & FM radio stations. Due to my broadcast engineering duties, I'm a member of the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE).

I've been a Ham since 2001, licensed originally as a Technician with the call-sign KG4PYY. I obtained my vanity call in 2002, upgraded to General in February 2013, and Extra Class in February 2014.

I am currently President and Repeater/call-sign Trustee of the Marion County Amateur Radio Club (KD4ATW), which was formed in October 2010 and I'm also an associate member of the Chattanooga Amateur Radio Club (W4AM).

Locally I operate on 2m and 70cm on the following systems: 443.100 (T88.5) KD4ATW in Jasper, TN,146.610 (T107.2 ) W4AM, and I'm in the process of building another repeater system for the Marion County club. I also enjoy working DX on 40m, 20m, and 10m when it's open, and I'm starting to do a bit more on 75/80, too. While I mainly love chasing DX, I also enjoy a good rag chew on HF, so you might hear me on the air there when conditions are favorable and time allows. I'm usually around 7.200 or 7.220 on 40m or 3980 on 75m.

I am active and interested in SkyWarn, and participate often in area SkyWarn nets and activations in our area! I have also been an ARES member in the Chattanooga club in past. I still participate in ARES events and nets when I can.

Drop me a line sometime via email, or maybe on one of the above listed repeaters.

73 de W4QXL, Logan
