Biography

I obtained my Novice license, KB4LDQ, in 1983. My call was changed to N4OYW when I upgraded to Tech Plus (remember that class). I grabbed W4EDP when the FCC first allowed Vanity Call Signs.

I am President of the Tri-States Amateur Radio Club in NW GA. I'm also a member of other clubs in the surrounding areas since I feel that as much as I use a clubs equipment, I should help with costs associated with that equipment and I also enjoying being a part of the clubs activities.

I am very involved with digital modes... D-STAR, Yaesu Fusion (C4FM) and DMR. On D-STAR I can be found on W4RRG-B 444.725 & W4RRG-C 145.160 (Chattanooga - IRCDDB). On Fusion / C4FM I can be found on W4EDP 442.650 & 442.725 (Chattanooga - Wires-X). On DMR I can be found on W4EDP 444.7125 & W4PL 444.150 (Chattanooga - BrandMeister). I also use DVAPs, DVDongles, DVMegas, etc when I'm around the house or traveling.

As far as local / regional repeaters go, I am usually listening and hanging around repeaters in the Chattanooga TN / Lookout Mountain, GA/TN area - especially the ones listed below (being at a 2100+ft ASL elevation on the mountain top gets you ALOT of choices!). I tend to be on DMR, D-Star, Fusion (listed below), 2m 145.350, 1.25m 224.560, 70cm 444.100 the most, although I do monitor 145.390, 146.790, 224.420 and 53.350.

145.160 (no tone) - W4RRG-C, Digital Only - with access to the IRCDDB D-Star network. Coverage for Chattanooga Metro, NW GA and NE AL.
145.350*(pl 100.0) - W4GTA, Yaesu System Fusion, Digital/Analog w/100.0 PL/TSQL on Analog. Extreme wide area coverage or Chattanooga Metro, NW GA and NE AL.
145.750 (simplex) - W4EDP-10, RMS Gateway Digipeater. Coverage for Chattanooga Metro, NW GA and NE AL. Supports GA ARES when needed.
224.120 (pl 146.2) - W4EDP, Allstar Node 46530. May be linked to other systems at times. *70 to list linked nodes.
224.560*(pl 100.0) - W4RRG, May be linked to other systems at times. Extreme wide area coverage or Chattanooga Metro, NW GA and NE AL.
441.875 (pl 146.2) - W4EDP, System Fusion repeater. ***OFF AIR***, Tower Site Issue - Hopefully not too much longer.
442.650 (pl 100.0) - W4EDP, Digital Only - Extreme wide area coverage for Chattanooga Metro, NW GA and NE AL. Wires-X, ARRL News & ARN News (Analog for News).
442.725 (no tone) - W4EDP, Digital Only - C4FM/Fusion with access to the Yaesu Wires-X network. Coverage for Chattanooga Metro, NW GA and NE AL.
444.150 (no tone) - W4PL, Digital Only - DMR with access to the BrandMeister network. Coverage for Chattanooga Metro, NW GA and NE AL.
444.7125 (no tone) W4EDP - Digital Only - DMR with access to the BrandMeister network. Coverage for Chattanooga Metro, NW GA and NE AL.

Echolink - W4EDP-L, Node# 6858 - Linked to the W4EDP 441.875 repeater. Can move to other repeaters for net coverage.
Echolink - N9ZEN-R, Node# 68581 - Linked to the K4SOD 146.760 repeater. Repeater provided by KW4EB and Dade Cty ARES.

N4LMC, W4GTA, W4PL & W4RRG are club calls that I am authorized to use by those respective clubs/trustees. A HUGE Thank You to all of them!

My wife Terri, is N9ZEN. She is heavily involved in helping me with all the repeater installations and maintenance... and it's all I can do to keep her off of the towers! She's not to big into the digital modes, but can be found weekly on the GA & TN ARES and SkyWarn nets (145.350 GA ARES, 146.610 SkyWarn and 146.790 TN ARES). She likes the emergency prep and response groups and also enjoys putting together documentation and helping with coordination. She also serves as Auxiliary Net Controller for a few others from time to time as needed.

She is Net Contol for the TAG (TN, AL, GA) YL Net. This net is dedicated all Properly Licensed Amateur Radio Gals located anywhere. The OM's are welcome to lurk & listen, but not participate. It is held on the W4AM 444.100 repeater on Lookout Mountain and can also be reached using Echolink node N9ZEN-R / Node # 68581.
On my computer systems, I run MAC OSX and Linux mainly... I try to stay as far away from Windows as I can! :-)
