Biography

I started out as KA3VJB when I earned a Novice class amateur radio operator license after passing the 5wpm code test and written test in 1989. In 1992, I earned my Technician Plus class amateur radio operator license which I continued to keep current through a period of inactivity. In the summer of 2017 I motivated to earn my General class amateur radio license, then I received my new vanity call sign W3DAB, and finally earned my Extra class amateur radio operator license.

My first amateur radio was a Heathkit HW-100 tube HF rig. Not long after that, I graduated to more current HF rigs by Icom, though I still love tube equipment. More recently, I have switched to using a magnificent Yaesu FT-920 as my primary HF rig. I do still have the Heathkit HW-100 all these years later Which I've recently restored! My station antenna is a self built OCF wire.
