Biography

While in high school, my study was electronics Radio/TV repair. Our school had a Amateur Radio station SVHS. it ran low watts. I tried to learn Morse Code back then (required), but couldn't do it. So I gave it up. During that time (1972-76), the electronics field had a major development. Along came the IC chip ! I did not know it would be a major game changer. When one of my teachers told the class, that he would be spending a major amount of money upgrading the class electronics test equipment, I decided electronics wasn't for me. I transferred to industrial/machine wiring instead.

So many years later I find myself getting back into electronics. I got back into Amateur Radio around early 2016 ! I joined the Lancaster Amateur Radio Club (LARC)/W2SO in 2016. I got my ; technicians on 06/13/16, general on 02/06/2017, extra on 06/06/2020. I changed my call from KD2LIG to AE2SZ 07/07/2020, after getting my extra ticket. I upgraded to my vanity call W2SAL on 03/23/2021 after watching it for several months.

I joined ARRL, I log on QRZ and QRZCQ and POTA and upload logs asap. ..

I'm primarily on 2m when mobile and at the qth honing my skills as a Net Control. I run the club info net on Monday eve's at 8:00pm !

I also get on the big rigs (HF) doing contesting when possible. I like making contacts during contests, but I really like having fun doing it over the numbers. I don't want to make it "work" and not enjoy it.I also like teaching new hams and other club members the protocols and logging.

Recently (2023), I organized having one of our club CW OP's (Larry KA2DDX) teach several of us club members Morse Code. It's not as easy we thought. But we are making progress! One day I'll be calling -.-. --.- -.- --.- !

You can usually find me doing contests, Field Day, Winter Field Day, both Light House weekends, and 13 Colonies, to name a few of my favorites ! I'm not big on rag chewing ! So I usually get the required exchange info and 73 !

You can follow a lot of our club activities by going to www.w2so.org where there are pics and our regenerated "Key Clicks" newsletter.

Thank you for the look up !

Equipment

My home set ups are - (2m/440) - Yaesu FT8800 / or FT400 doing the info-net and local chats.

HF - Yaesu FT920 using a Carolina Windom. I also run a Icom 718 with a signaLink for doing digital.I recently add the Icom 7300 to my shack. A good friend (AA2PR) gave me a cobweb antenna which is mounted on my garage at about 20ft off the ground. All my HF antennas are wires due to being on arrival flight path to our Int. Airport.

My "Go Box" carries a Icom 706, power supply, MFJ antenna tuner and a signaLink. I also carry a 2m mag mount and a 6-80M dipole. I sometimes use my portable vertical's. I have a "Outbacker and aluminum quad-pod", and also a single vertical "Buddystick" !
