Letter to my Grandfather on July 15th, 2023:
Hey Papa,
One of my earliest memories was the sound of morse code and slightly off tune voices morphing into conversation. I sat with you when you talked from people on the other side of the world before the internet existed, and a phone call would have cost several dollars a minute. It was absolutely fascinating. Even better, I got to spend time with you.
Today, I got an email from the government that I've been working very hard for. I did it Papa. I'm licensed at the same level you were, and today, almost 30 years to the day from your last renewal, I I got your callsign to carry on your memory. Who knows... maybe I'll talk to someone on the air that will say, "hey I remeber that call..." and we can reminisce about how awesome "Dr. Bob" was.
Somehow I can feel that smile of yours about this right now from wherever you and Grandma are hanging out. We all miss you and love you so much Papa.
73s,
