Biography

Biography

I am Sivarama Prasad, hailing from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, initiated my amateur radio journey with the callsign VU2ZCY in 1987. Later, I upgraded to Grade I (now General Grade) with the callsign VU2ICC in 1988.

Moreover, throughout my years of experience, I have successfully contacted 220 countries, receiving QSL confirmation, a remarkable achievement that places me among the world's DXers.

Training and Mentorship: Beyond personal achievements, I am deeply committed to sharing my knowledge and expertise with amateur radio aspirants. Throughout my career, I have trained 1,000 enthusiasts in amateur radio, equipping them with the necessary knowledge to become licensed radio operators.

Service During Super Cyclone 1990 – Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh:

In May 1990, the Guntur and Krishna districts of Andhra Pradesh were hit by a devastating super cyclone, resulting in a major disaster response effort. Ham radio played a vital role in coordinating rescue and relief operations, with HF stations established to provide a reliable communication link between the affected areas and government agencies. Shri Rajiv Gandhi VU2RG, with whom I had the opportunity to communicate via HF, rendered effective service.

Service During Gujarat Earthquake 2001:

In response to the catastrophic Gujarat earthquake that hit on 26 January 2001, causing widespread devastation and loss of life and severely disrupting conventional communication networks, I established and operated HF/VHF stations in Bhuj with the support of Mr. Venkat VU2VLU. The rest of my ham teammates set up stations in other affected areas of Gujarat state, supporting the administration in addressing communication difficulties.

Shri Keshuv Bhai Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat and Shri N. Chandra Babu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, were extensively acknowledged and commended with Appreciation certificates for our exceptional communication support during the earthquake 2001.

The Hams with the support of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, established and provided HF/VHF communications during the Godavari Pushkarams in the East and West Godavari Districts in the years 1991, 2003, and 2015, as well as during the Krishna Pushkarams in 1992, 2004, and 2016. The Collectors and District Magistrates of Guntur, Krishna, East Godavari, and West Godavari Districts have recognized the contributions of these hams by awarding them Certificates of Appreciation.

Since 1987, I have been actively operating HF/VHF and have accumulated numerous DX contacts, received multiple notable awards, and provided training to amateur radio enthusiasts, while also supporting state governments during natural disasters such as cyclones, floods, and earthquakes.
