| Biography I started a playing around with radios in 1992 after a family friend gave me an old AM set when I was about 12 years old. Regularly using CB radio until my early 20’s when I got internet and a mobile phone. The radio gear sat in the shed until I was 37. Thankful I never sold any of my old gear and so I set up my slightly bent Station Master antenna and Uniden AX 144 and I was back on the air chasing skip. A short while after I bought an RTL-SDR V3 receiver and connected it to my Station Mastere which opened up a whole new world of listening pleasure. I became a regular listener on the 40 meter band and my local amateur radio clubs 70cm repeater always making sure to tune in to the WIA’s Sunday morning news broadcast and the callback that follows. I was dying to reply so much that I contacted the Elizabeth Amatuer Radio Club about purchasing the foundation study book and contacted the North East Radio Club about the next available test day. On Saturday the 15th of September 2018 I sat for my Foundation licence test and by Thursday the 11th of October 2018 I was a licenced operator. Equipment Not a great deal at this stage. A simple 2m/70cm setup in my computer room using an X30 dual band antenna and keeping an eye out for a HF rig that ticks all the boxes for the price. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
