Biography

THANKS FOR THE QSO! (If we had one, that is!) If not, give me a shout if you hear me on. QRS? NP.

- I've been fascinated with the magic of radio for as long as I can remember. A 1940's era Stromberg-Carlson tube radio with broadcast/short wave got me hooked - big time! Imagine, listening to the world while in my bedroom, out in the country on the farm in the 1960s! Hundreds of SW broadcasters back then! That's probably where I got my interest in current events as well.

- Starting in my pre teen years, (late 1950s, 60s), I did everything radio... SWL, BCBDX, LW, PIRATE RADIO (had my own stn, 1200khz WZAP (yup, a US call sign - long story)), CB, HAM RADIO etc.

- Got my ham radio start on 40 Meter CW in the mid 1960's with the help of a real old timer, Harley, VE3BOK. His station was embedded in his radio/tv repair business' workshop where I worked after school. My 1st solo QSO: 1964. For some time I operated his station (as Harley) pretty much on my own.

- Got my ticket in 1979 in Montreal, Quebec: VE2FYB.

- Moved back to Ontario (Toronto area) in 1986 and was issued VE3UXJ.

- Ended up in wireless/radio my entire career. In a lab, service manager, then sales and marketing V.P.

- Operated Classic Radio Restorations LLC (restored 1920s to 1950s broadcast vacuum tube radios)

- Other interests, (inactive) and present: Photography, Old Time Radio Shows, Big Band/Swing Music, Reading, (Flying (Piper Cherokee C-FKKJ), Hunting, Shooting).

- I operate CW (the Original Digital) on HF. Straight key or bug. That's my comfort zone. Mostly like to ragchew, chase POTA/SOTA, sometimes DX.

- I really enjoy QRP. QRP challenges one's operating skills. NAQCC #11806

- SKCC #25281, LoTW, QRZ.com, Member RAC.

- Station: ICOM IC 7610, IC 7300, IC 705, ACOM 1000.,

- I QSL 100%. Want a paper QSL? Send me one, or just ask; you get one back. No stamps, no money needed. No bureau. I also upload to LoTW regularily.

- My QSL card is somewhat in the style of the 1940s and reflects my great admiration of the many hams of the 'Golden Age of Radio'. Thank you Harley, VE3BOK.

Silence in the face of evil is itself evil;
God will not hold us guiltless.
Not to speak is to speak,
Not to act is to act.
