Biography

Hi!

Thank you for looking up my call!

My name is Rob and I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I've been passionate about radios for the last 40+ years, mainly shortwave (listening and DX), scanning, and all sorts of electronic mischief! However I have only been licensed since 2019. Fabulous hobby, I regret not getting involved in it sooner.

Current antennas

ZS6BKW at about 40 feet/12 metres with homemade ladder line

Homemade hexbeam antenna (6M-20M, below)

40ft/12m (length) multiband wire dipole fed with homemade ladder line and true balanced line tuner

80ft/25m end-fed longwire with Unique Wire Tuner, roller L network

Multiple U Slot, 20m monoband

60M horizontal loop (homemade LL)

10-12m Fiberglass coaxial dipole vertical

Do/proficient with most all modes; perfer digital, including WSJT, FlDigi, RTTY, and VarAC.

Also on Peanut- it's a great place for a long QSO without relying on the ionosphere. Feel free to say 'Hello' on the English or CQCanada rooms. Registered on Echolink as well.

Other non-radio interests that we might chat about include travelling, bicycling (including cycle-touring), outdoor goldfish ponds, engineering, environmental issues, winemaking, most things science, exotic cars I can never afford, the incredible city of Toronto, marine life (SCUBA certified, open-water +deep endorsement; but actually prefer snorkeling), (travel) photography, HP-41 (if you don't know it, don't bother looking it up- really...), alternative lifestyles, smartphones, Raspberry Pi, and discussing/learning about quirky and unusual things in your country!
