Biography

Licensed in 1994, first activity at VHF/UHF, mainly FM and TCP/IP over AX.25, with the help of JNOS on DOS. Activity on HF started later, in 1999 and interrupted in 2003, due to building works on the roof, so I was forced to unmount all my antennas from my permanent QTH, until the end of the building works in 2005.

In 2006, short after the building works were finished, I received a long term QRL assignment abroad, in YU-land, (in Novi Sad actually) where I was received a local license as a foreigner and I was granted the callsign YU9DAY. (I have to thank here the OM in YU7BPQ, Radio Club Novi Sad, for their sincere help and support. "Hvala puno priateli!").

I was repartiated to Greece in 2010, but for several family reasons, I didn't manage to mount my antennas until May 2015. Now (April 2021) rig is a TS-590SG barefoot with a FRITZEL FD4 and a MOLSEY TA53A with 40M kit.

From 2002 until 2015, I have had only occasional and scarce activity on HF, usually during vacations (summer, Easter, Christmas, etc), from temporaty locations, mainly from SV8 or from SV4 regions and very-very few from YU-land.

Since February 2019, I have an ordinary QTH in LZ-land, due to a long term QRL assignment. Initially, I had plans to be licensed locally, (as LZ1DAY most probably), due to local residence status deriving from my long term QRL assignment. However, now I can operate as only as LZ/SV1DAY, since there is no perspective anymore for a local callsign, due to changes of my QRL assignment in July 2020.

Due to COVID-19 outbreak a lot of things have changed. I am locked down in Athens since October 2020 and I cannot travel to LZ-land until now (March 2021). I expect and I wish to be more lucky in the near future...

I enjoy digital modes a lot, while my wish was and remains to improve myself in CW. In May 2020, I completed the Basic Class of CW Academy! An inspired initiative by CWops with amazing results! Read more information here: https://cwops.org/cw-academy/cw-academy-options/ At last I can be on the air! Thank you so much dear CWops! Thank you Fanis, SV2BBK for mentoring me! In February 2021 I completed the Intermediate Class of CW Academy. Thank you Hanz, YL3JD for advising me both in Basic and in Intermediate courses! CWops are doing brilliant work! I am impressed and deeply moved by the dedication, commitment and passion of this group! TU CWops!
