NO AMPS, NO BIG ANTS, NO DIGITAL MODES, NO CONTESTS HERE, BUT LOTS OF FUN
Have been licenced since 1973 and have been interested in Radio for as long as I can remember. I love to travel and have been lucky to have travelled extensively during my time off. Also a lot of diving exploration trips somewhere.
At home QTH I have a Yaesu FT897D and a MFJ 1788 Magnetic loop for 40m to 15m and an Outbacker Perth mobile antenna which I normally use for 80m to 10m with a TS480Sat. I sometimes use one of my Icoms, either IC7000 or IC703 with other mobile or portable antennas.
I do like a good ragchew and I like looking for the unusual DX and enjoy chasing IOTA and WLOTA.I operate SSB and CW.
If you hear me on the bands then please come and say hello..!! I prefer a good QSO rather than RST reports, and you never know, you may get a contact in some very unsual places.
I am kitted out for overland trips so you may hear me mobile in some strange places. Working Conditions in my car is usually FT897D,TS480 or IC7000 with Z11Pro tuner and one of my Outbackers,MA5 or ATAS120A. I also have a Chameleon Micro Hybrid for 80m to 6m and A100 Magloop 40-10m which I tune up when static mobile. When portable I often use QRP Icom 703Plus.
My other hobby is freediving and spearfishing and I enjoy hunting around the world on deep wrecks, caves and lonely islands in posidonia, kelp or among rocks. I used to enjoy scuba but now I prefer freediving.
I'm keen on portable and mobile activities. CW and SSB are my favourite modes though I enjoy AM and FM on 10m at times. I'm fond of mobile antennas(screwdrivers and helicals, both commercial and home made), magloops and microvert antennas as well. I always use a barefoot transceiver, frequently QRP,too. My main interest is HF activity but I can also be heard on 6m,2m and 70cm. My QTH is about 265m ASL and my antennas are located about 20m over the ground.
Also a gourmet of good whiskey, brandy, rum and wine, Italian espresso and Mediterranean cuisine.
As the sea life is my great love, I do a lot of freediving and spearfishing. Apart from ham radio I'm keen on marine life, sea kayaking, boating, photography(also underwater) using Olympus TG4 and Canon EOS30d, foreign languages, martial arts(Karate, Kung Fu and Kobudo weapons), flying, good cars and visiting remote areas.
