Biography

Hello everyone! 73!

I've been interested in radio ever since I was a kid. I was always fascinated by the idea that with just a radio receiver and an antenna, you could hear someone thousands of kilometres away. Many years have passed, but I'm still amazed by what you can pick up on the radio waves.

I'm a shortwave listener (SWL), and my callsign is SP6017SWL. I really enjoy listening to amateur radio operators from all over the world, but that's not all. I also love tuning into international radio stations and discovering great music. Sometimes you just turn the tuning dial, stumble upon something interesting, and suddenly realise you're listening to a broadcast coming from the other side of the world. That's exactly what I love about radio.

I also enjoy experimenting with antennas, trying different setups and seeing what else I can receive. Sometimes I spend more time tinkering than actually listening, but that's all part of the fun!

Lately, I've also become increasingly interested in SDR (Software Defined Radio). Together with a good friend who shares my enthusiasm for technology and radio, we're developing Heterodyna SDR. It's our own software project for receiving and analysing radio signals. We're working on it because we enjoy it, learning plenty along the way and trying out new ideas.

If you're interested, feel free to check out our project on GitHub:

Recently, I've also started exploring digital amateur radio modes. I'm learning how to recognise and decode different types of transmissions using SDR software, additional programs, and plugins. I'm certainly no expert in this field, but that's what makes it interesting — experimenting, learning, and discovering something new.

For me, radio isn't just about equipment, frequencies, and antennas. It's also a way to explore the world without leaving home. You never really know what station you might come across the next time you switch on your receiver.

I also collect QSL cards, so every confirmation of a station I've heard is something I genuinely appreciate.

If you've made it this far, thanks for reading! Maybe one day I'll hear you on the bands!

Equipment

My Radio Equipment

Receiver:
Tecsun PL-660 – my shortwave receiver for listening to amateur radio operators, international broadcasts and music from around the world.

SDR Equipment:
RTL-SDR – for exploring the radio spectrum, receiving different types of signals and experimenting with digital radio decoding.

Antennas:
Several home-built antennas for different frequency bands. I enjoy designing, building, testing and improving them. There's always something new to try!

Software:
SDR++ and various digital signal decoding tools.

Heterodyna SDR – an open-source radio receiver and signal analysis software project that I'm developing together with a good friend.

Always experimenting, learning and looking for new signals to receive!
