About Me – PD3WMA, Walter

My radio journey began around the age of 14, when I discovered the exciting world of 11-meter radio. At 18, I moved on to Shortwave Listening (SWL), exploring the fascinating world of radio communications.

In my mid-twenties, life took a different turn. Marriage, work, and everyday responsibilities gradually put the hobby on hold.

But the radio spirit never really left me!

In 2019, I officially joined the Dutch VRZA as an SWL member and rediscovered my passion for radio. I started listening again, exploring the amazing world of SDR (Software Defined Radio), and eventually returned to my roots on the 11-meter band.

On 11 meters, you can find me as 19RF883, proudly representing the Dutch Romeo Foxtrot DX (RFDX) group.

A major milestone came on March 15, 2022, when I successfully passed my Novice amateur radio examination and officially became a licensed radio amateur. A big thank you to the Romeo Foxtrot group and the DX association for their excellent course and support!

Today, I enjoy exploring the many fascinating aspects of amateur radio, experimenting with different bands and modes, with a particular passion for digital communications.

For me, amateur radio is all about discovery, learning, making new contacts, and connecting with fellow radio enthusiasts around the world.
