Biography

Welcome to the page of PD1ATH.

My name is Auke and I was born in the place called De Westereen its a little village about 6000 people in the province of Friesland. The province of Friesland is located in the north part of the Netherlands. Its about 150 km from the capital of the Netherlands name Amsterdam and 25 km from the north sea coast. This area is completely flat, so no hills like in the south part of the Netherlands. We have four islands in the province of Friesland between the Wadden Sea and the North Sea these are called Terschelling, Vlieland, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog. Our environment is surrounded by a lot of water (canals)and forests. If it is winter well and the canals are frozen then we skate from one city to another city on the canal that is a tradition here in Friesland. It's called the elfstedetocht maybe you have heard about it is a trip over 200 km. Olso the Friese language is popular here in Friesland becouse whe are not speaking dutch but Frisian. Frisian is a real second language in the Netherlands so not a dialect but a real language so the ordinary Dutch people outside friesland cannot understand us Hi. So now you know something about friesland. Now something about ham radio Ham radio is a big hobby of mine, I've been doing this since I was 11 years old on the 11 meter band, of course, legal. And I enjoy to experience and to make contacts with friends over the world with this hobby and ofcourse in our home country the Nederlands I made nice contacts in that time. Later I went to study for the amateur radio exam and got my N license and i realy proud of that. I can usually be heard every day on the 20 meter band that's my favorite band. I hope to meet you some day on the frequency so that we can meet each other on the band on the 20 meters, 40 meters and 10 meters. I wish you a lot of good dx your friend Auke.
