Biography

Mich Gevaert

Hi,

My name is Mich.....thx for your visit...I am a antenna builder & rf/hf researcher for many years . 3Y0 was my last target on a few bands and i accomplished in 2026. Now its time to step back. I wish you all the best and good hunt !

Today im using my own unique design for 160/80 and a bonus. Several elements , vertical , random fixed & combined network. No typical textbook layout . Its replacing the 4 squares , that said...I call it the jay array , travelling without moving .

Jay array : A unique name for a unique approach on a lowband antenna system for 160/80 created by Mich on8dm !

Gain: 80m 7db FB: +/-24db fwd lobe is steerable from 120° to +/- 60°, very sharp !

Gain 160m: 4.5db FB: +/- 6db fwd lobe 140° at 20°-30° elevation. As the signals on 160m can be very unpredicatble (multihop) i see it as a benefit..

Goal; 40m integration with the same lay out , okt 2026 but depends on how many extras it all take -)

Antennas used in the past: all homemade ( the only commercial antenna i ever bought was a mobile whip for 2m/70cm , hi !)

Transmit:

Except the 9 circle , i builded all , yes ALL the antennas shown in the ON4UN's low band dxing book. Also all kind of DK7ZB , LFA antennas for HF VHF UHF, yagis , small quads , dualband antennas hexbeams, you name it !

Receive: All the antennes shown in the ON4Un's low band dxing book have been builded + 8 x Phased pair of 450m long beverages in 8 directions, talking about a footprint ! All kind of promising magic very short antennas most unusable for serious deep in the noise dx listening . The 9 circle array with modifications . Liras , double deltas you name it.

September 2026 i rebuilded a 3 in line crossed with a 2 in line vertical with a complete new preamp on each vertical for fun. Listening on it is ok but the trick with my transmit array is gold compared to the rx verticals .

Old skool style; take a look at my video (4 sq 80 ) on youtube (and this is ONLY 4 elements full size ) in what i did ( due to restricitions) on 80m ( and 160m ) years after years , storm rain snow, just insane. Pushing these antennas up was a 1 man operation. just see me running, hi ! It have brought many hams to some ideas , goodluck all !

Equipment

My new own design for 80/ 160 ( and other bands if needed ). the Jay array.

Like many of you know , beying qrv on 80 or 160 was a struggle, pulling up antennas at night in the winter BUT i never gave up until the Jay was born , crazy isn t it ? This was my workout for years despite the disbelief and gossip of some local monkeys. A short movie explained it all but even then.....it payed off anyway. Who dares wins !
