Biography

First licensed in January 1982 as KA0MWZ in Topeka, KS. Was also KD0FH before getting my current call in 1987. We moved to our lake place near Shell Knob, MO in April 2015 seen in the pic above after the original cabin was added onto. I operate mostly HF CW but can also be found on SSB during the winter with a great group on 1.947. I use an Elecraft K3 or Yaesu FT-857D in the shack. My newest addition to the shack is a re-creation of my first Novice rig back in 1982 - took me a while to find them but I now have a working set of Heathkit Cheyenne and Comanche twins at the operating position. Recently picked up a set of Drake 4 line twins and a Kenwood TS-820S for more boat anchor fun. An Elecraft KPA500 adds power when needed. Antennas are a 2 element 5 band qubical quad at 40', 80M doublet fed with ladder line, 43' vertical with a remote antenna tuner at the base and a 160M full wave horizontal loop fed with ladder line. The mobile station uses an IC-706MKIIG and an Outbacker Jr antenna. My XYL Mary is N0HLV.

Geratol #864, FISTS #6279, Ten-X #44362, SKCC 16461. After over 24 years I finally got my DXCC (40,327) so it's obvious I'm just a casual DXer :). Also recently added QRP CW 40 meter WAS and 160M CW WAS.

Retired in November 2015 but still work part time driving cars for a GM dealership. Most of my career was with Enterprise Rent A Car. BS Psychology '75, MBA '77 both from Kansas State University. EM
