Biography

Greeting!

I was introduced to amateur radio in 2011 while a crew member on the "Splash" hot air ballooning team from Rio Rancho, New Mexico. The pilot, KC5IPK, is a long time ham and wanted to get all his pilots and crew members licensed to they'd be able to better communicate while piloting/chasing the balloon. I started with an HT for a couple months, then acquired a Kenwood TS-2000 with an Alpha Delta DX-EE for my attic in a HOA neighborhood. I've since added a Kenwood D710A to my Jeep for mobile communications. In April 2012, I added a SignaLink USB to my shack for digital communications and have been enjoying JT-65 and PSK31 modes. In 2013 I added a Kenwood TS-480HX with an Alpha Delta Tripod using hamsticks in my motorhome. I am also a member of the Colorado Hammin' Sams Good Sam Club fostering friendship and camping with amateur radio. I help out when possible as an ARRL VE.

I served in the United States Air Force from 1974 through 1999 and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. After retirement, I worked in the Operating Room for five years and then as an IT Manager at Fort Carson expanding on my 30 year computer hobby. Since I am color blind (deficient), I've always struggled with the color coding portion of electronics, but now welcome amateur radio with open arms. I need some assistance from my XYL (KM0L)from time to time with colors (hi hi).

All logs are uploaded to QRZCQ, LoTW, and eQSL. If I receive a QSL card, I will send one in return. I do not send out cards otherwise.
