Biography

My name is Greg Hemmings and I live in the beautiful mountains of Virginia. We are about 45 minutes north of Roanoke in the Shenandoah Valley. My home QTH is on top of a mountain about 650 feet above the surrounding countryside. It's a great location for any antenna! I have been involved in Amateur Radio for 45 plus years and really enjoy it. I am married with two grown sons, Austin and Erich, and four wonderful grandchildren. I hope you enjoy visiting my website. Please drop me an email and let me know what you think!

Worked DXCCs:

Equipment

I have been an Amateur Radio Operator for 45+ years. I have come a very long way from the Drake T4XB, which was my very first rig! Currently, I use an Elecraft K4 which I feel is the best rig I have ever owned. I have to say, this is my second Elecraft as I have always owned Kenwoods and Icoms in the past. I loved the receive qualities of the Icom rigs and felt they would never be surpassed, but after many months of research and inquiry, I decided to take the plunge and try the K4. Boy, am I glad I did! This rig has THE BEST receive characteristics of ANY rig!
I have this rig coupled with an Audio-Technica BP40 dynamic microphone which sounds fantastic on the air. I run the mic into a W2IHY EQ Plus and have the 2000 configured for great audio. My amplifier is the Elecraft KPA 1500 amplifier with automatic tuning. My logging program is currently MacLogger DX, which I am convinced is the best all around logging program on the planet. It seems to be the perfect logging program as all info is easily accessible, plus it integrates well with almost everything. In the past I have used Ham Radio Deluxe. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments about my station. I use a HexBeam at 30'.
