Biography

Hello, most folks call me Rick Sr, I have been a Amateur Radio Operator since 1980, when I obtained my Novice License, then I upgraded to Technician class, Ed Bowe N4DDY got my intrest in Ham Radio after being a 11 meter operator for many years, and I found a greater class of radio operators, my intrest though was voice operation on SSB on the HF frequencies, so studied again and took my General class test after a struggling time with the code, but I made it through and also ended up taking my Advanced class test passing both I retained the Advance license tell a few years ago when my intrest was also to help others get their Ham ticket, so once again hit the books and passed, and became a VE manager for ARRL, giving Amateur Radio Test for the FCC, and being able to see those smiles when they pass !!! It's Awsome

My intrest also went towards emergency communications and the weather, I am the Emergency Coordinator for Sevier County, going on my 4th year appointment, was elected President Of Sevier County Emergency Radio Service, and held this position for 3 years now, but I did declined to run as President 2011, and as it looks I will be the Vice President starting Aug 2011, when I deliever that office to Darrell Sperry as President. .I am involved in SKYWARN as the Asst. District Emergency Coordinator for District 6, was appointed as the Asst RACES Officer , and also I am the Logistics Officer for Sevier County Emergency Management AgencyIt's been a real honor to be a part of these great orginazations, in helping our community and the served agencies I filed for ARRL Affiliated Club which we recieved , and thanks to Kevin Duplantis W4KEV gave our club a 440 repeater on 443.225, which I am the trustee over, was able to get our club a club call of KJ4HPM, and very proud to be over the Titanic 2011 & 2012 Special Event. Ok enough of that .

I am the event coordinator for our club, and the 470 Amateur Radio Group that I founded in 2007, which meets on the 145.470 repeater owned by Tim Berry WB4GBI, who also owns several other great repeaters, and I serve as QSL Manager for the special events that we do both with Sevier County Emergency Radio Service and the 470 ARG

My past well was a police officer for the Morehead Police Department in Morehead KY., with various types of training, was a TV Station Manager for a local low powered TV station in Morehead and I also owned a Electronics Store in Morehead, I went to Morehead State University for Business, Electronics and Drafting, East Kentucky University for my Law Enforcement training, and also had training from S&W. and Mossberg Firearms I was selected as Firearms Instructor for the city along with a good friend Baker Hollis
