Biography

Name here is Randy.

Many of you may know me by my previous call sign, KB3KGP.

Boy what a tongue twister on HF!!

My HAM adventure starts a little less than 3 years ago when a couple of friends told me I would enjoy Ham Radio. I didn't believe them, but I told them I would try anyways. Long story short, I passed my Tech test, went back a few months later and took the General Theory. I tried for months practicing for the Morse code test, no luck. It wasn't until the 2005 Field Day, I got the HF Itch. I studied some more and by late July, I passed!! Since then I have been working HF a lot. I Even got my WAS award in less than 8 months!! I recently upgraded to Amateur Extra. Boy what a hurdle. But I did it. NO MORE limitations.

I also recently upgraded my Extra call to a Vanity Call, and thus N3ZK was born.

I really enjoy RTTY contesting as well as Phone and CW contests. By far RTTY is my favorite mode. I also love rag chewing. I also am running an APRS DigiPeater at the house and a mobile APRS unit in the truck using a Kenwood D-700. I also have a Kenwood D7A(G) that I roam around with on foot and my bicycle.

I look forward to Field Day and The PA QSO Party every year.

Station Information:

Icom 756 ProIII, Icom 207h, Hustler BTV 5 Vertical, Various Dualband verticals, Bencher BY1 Keyer .

As of September of 2007, I have installed a 40' Tower with a Mosley Mini-32A beam on top. The tower also holds my Weather Station.

I am a member of the Wireless Association of South Hills Amateur Radio Club (N3SH/WA3SH/NP2SH). I was the president of this club for the 2007 year. When you are in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area, give us a call on the N3RNX 146.955- or the N3FB 443.650+ repeaters. We look forward to hearing from you. You will find many of us running APRS as well in the Pittsburgh area. Visit us on the web at www.n3sh.org.

Please QSL as I am working toward my DXCC!!

QSL via LOTW, The Bureau or a paper card. I respond to all QSL Requests.
