Biography

Thanks for checking out my page....I'm SWL and radio enthusiast in West Yorkshire UK. I became involved in the hobby in September 2017. Many radios (my EyeEm profile shows many of these) and antenna later, here I am.

My main interest is HF and HF rx/tx antenna design (novice) and experimentation. I dabble in 11mtrs (rarely), 2 and 70, DMR (need convincing) and network (need more convincing) but you can't beat hearing and logging a HF DX station with a homebrew wire antenna and a beautifully crafted Japanese appliance radio.

Always investigating and keen to learn and I welcome information and sage advice on home brew HF antenna ideas (ideally stealth),
predominantly for 160/80/40.

Looking at various commercial Mag loops and wire beam antenna and would very much welcome recommendation and advice.

Equipment

RADIO EQUIPMENT:-

Icom IC-7300 - hf/50 transceiver
Yaesu FT-991A - hf/vhf/uhf transceiver
ANYTONE - D868 UV - 2/70/DMR handheld transceiver - rarely used.
RADIO TONE - RT5 - network radio Android device - struggling to fully appreciate and really "get" this mode but I am working hard to give it a chance. IRN Callsign:- 27IRN106/Zello username:-26PD997

ANTENNAE:-

CROSS COUNTRY WIRELESS HF ACTIVE ANTENNA - outdoor vertical plane mounted (east to west) at 30 feet. Particularly useful on 160/80 and 40 but a decent all rounder on HF.

5 BAND COBWEBB with Ham Goodies 4:1 balun - attic mounted. Home made.

40 METRE WIRE DIPOLE - attic mounted. Home made. Reasonable alternative and comparison antenna on 40.

20 METRE BAND GROUND MOUNTED VERTICAL - ground mounted with 1:9 unun, 4 random counterpoise radials and earthed. Home made. Great antenna for 20/40 and 17. A surprisingly nice homebrew result. Prefers rx from SE direction.

2/70 J POLE BY SUPERYAGI UK - attic mounted. Does the business on 2/70 and Air if needed.

Considering mag loops and wire beam designs.....more to follow.

DX Code Of Conduct

dx code of conduct small logoI support the "DX Code Of Conduct" to help to work with each other and not each against the others on the bands. Click here and find out more about the project and how you can endorse it.
