Biography

Hello and thank you for visiting my QRZ page.

My name is Jonathan, although most people know me as Jay. I have held my UK Amateur Radio licence since 2005.

Originally from South Wales, I relocated to Redcar, North Yorkshire, England, in 2024, where I now enjoy operating from my home station alongside my faithful companion, Roxie.

Like many amateurs, family and work commitments meant I took a break from the hobby for over ten years. In 2021, I returned to amateur radio and quickly rediscovered why I fell in love with the hobby in the first place. Since then I've been active once again, enjoying meeting operators from around the world and improving my station whenever I can.

Amateur Radio Interests
My main passion is HF operating, particularly making worldwide contacts, chasing DX, and enjoying relaxed rag-chews with fellow amateurs.

Favourite bands include:

40 Metres
20 Metres
15 Metres
I also enjoy operating on VHF/UHF and occasionally using digital voice equipment.

Station Equipment
HF Transceivers
Yaesu FT DX1200
Yaesu FT-891
VHF/UHF Equipment
Yaesu FT-8900R
Yaesu FT-2980
Yaesu FT-65
Yaesu FT-70D
Icom ID-52
Antenna System
My primary antenna is a multi-band End-Fed Long Wire antenna, covering:

80 metres
40 metres
20 metres
17 metres
15 metres
12 metres
10 metres
This setup performs extremely well from my location and allows me to enjoy HF whenever conditions permit.

Operating Style
I enjoy:

DX chasing
Worldwide rag-chews
Portable operating when possible
Helping new amateurs
Improving my station and antenna systems
You'll usually find me somewhere on the HF bands.

QSL Information
If we've made contact, thank you for the QSO.

QRZ logbook confirmations are always appreciated, and I try to confirm contacts as promptly as possible.

Other Radio Interests
In addition to Amateur Radio, I'm also active on:

27.555 MHz USB (11 Metres)

Callsign:

26RD01

I enjoy meeting operators from around the world on both the amateur bands and 11 metres.

About Me
Outside of radio, I enjoy spending time with my dog Roxie, learning about new radio equipment, improving my station, and making friends across the globe through amateur radio.

One of the things I enjoy most is that every time I switch on the radio, there's always someone new to meet and somewhere new to reach.

Thanks For Visiting
Thank you for taking the time to visit my QRZ page.

Whether we've already had a QSO or you're simply looking me up, I appreciate your visit and hope we can meet on the bands sometime soon.

Good DX, stay safe, and may the propagation be in your favour.
