Biography

Was a Short Wave listener for 20 years before taking the Foundation Licence in 2002. Took the City and Guild a year later and became M1ICL.

Graduated from Salford University in the mid-80's with a BSc in Mathematics, Physics and Computing using PDP-11's and Fortran, COBOL, Pascal and C. Became a software developer for import/export systems before moving to the print trade and specialising in the transfer of main-frame data into a fully automated pre-press system developed by myself.

Slowly began to diversify and learn the Graphic Design and Lithographic aspects of the business as well as the new digital pre-press and printing machines. Now self-employed designer/printer.

Other interests include computing (anything Apple - once I started using their kit I never looked back), photography and internet.

I only use wire antennas for HF. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jim at RadioWorks who supplied my first proper HF antenna - the Carolina Windom 160 Compact. We met at the Orlando HamFest and he went to the trouble of making and shipping one to me on a later vist. In 2021 I added the Hari 160m-10m 280' Windom, pictures attached and also Comet GP-1, Comet GP-3 and Comet GP-6 antennas for 2m and 70cm as well as a 5 Element 2M Cross Yagi and 4M Half Wave Dipole. 2022 update has been the MFJ-1777 102' Doublet - effectively an original G5RV fed with ladder line.

Radios are the Yaesu FT-100D, Yaesu FT-817ND, Yaesu FT-7800, Yaesu FTM-100D, Yaesu FTM-300D, Yaesu VX-2, Yaesu FT5D, Yaesu FTDX-3000, Yaesu FTDX-10 and KN-990. As I think you may have guessed I am a Yaesu fan and after a brief experience with Icom equipment and very poor service from the manufacturer both here and in the USA I am back with Yaesu who have never let me down, but then I came across the KN-990 and loved it so that is now a great addition to the Shack. Also have the Juma PA1000 Amplifier.
