Biography

I became an SWL (RS95654) in the early 1990's (R208 receiving set, then Trio 9R-59D, then Yaesu FRG-100) and when a local college ran the RAE course I took it (and passed). My interest was HF so because of the morse requirement I stayed an SWL rather than getting my licence, and eventually drifted away from radio because of my day job, and family.

During the Summer of 2013 I bought a FunCube Dongle Pro+ and got back into Short Wave Listening. When I discovered that the morse requirement was no more I applied for my licence. Ironically I started on VHF with an FT-60 but soon bought a second-hand Alinco DX-70TH HF+6m transceiver and an Outback 2000 multiband HF+6 mobile antenna.

I mainly operate /M now with a Yaesu FT-857D and prefer the higher HF bands. I'm a member of the RSGB (since 1994) and ARRL.

Look forward to speaking to you on air.

73 David
