Biography

I have recently retired from teaching at Southampton University, and have been interested in radio since being a young kid in the 1950s. My late father (who was a radio operator in the Royal Signals) and I used to build crystal sets to listen to European broadcasting stations. Ever since then, I was “hooked”. I spent twenty years as an SWL, and have been licensed since 1997 – operating mainly on VHF (2m ssb) with the callsign M1CWB, which I retain. My favourite HF bands are 40m and 17m, where I operate as M0EBO, using a simple setup (see below).
My QTH is one mile (2 km) north of the port of Southampton, close to the River Itchen (locator IO90HW). I am a member of the RSGB (BRS 147206) and the International Short Wave League (G21016).
Best wishes from Ian – I look forward to working you on the bands.
Please QSL via buro, eqsl, or direct – I will answer all cards in the same way as received.
