Biography

I am an avid biker. I average 30 miles or 50km a day on the roads and trails around the Shawnee. We are fortunate to have many miles of biking trails that are concrete or black top surfaced. Don't believe what you hear about KS being flat. There are hills on the trails that have 18% grades and are marked as NOT RECOMMENDED. A biker died on the trail a few years. In 2020 I rode 5400 miles or 8700km. I currently ride a full carbon Trek Domane SLR 6 DISC 54 with a Garmin GPS. We are fortunate to have many miles of biking trails that are concrete or black top surfaced. Don't believe what you hear about KS being flat. There are hills on the trails that have 18% grades and are marked as NOT RECOMMENDED. A biker died on the trail a few years ago. In 2016 I rode 5000 miles and a 70 mile ride for my birthday.

My love of biking is only replaced by my first love of running. I competed in track and field from the age of 12 thru 22. I was a 400 meter runner for the university and achieved NCAA medals at the regional level. At the age of 44, I had my first hip replacement which required me to stop running. I had been running 4 miles daily when weather permitted but pain had really caused me to stop. I tried swimming but missed the outdoors. I decided to start biking 6 months after my first surgery. The rest is history.

I am retired from working and teaching medical laboratory science for senior college students at a local hospital and medical center. Age 74. I am certified as MT(ASCP)CT medical technologist and cytotechnolist.

I am primarily a CW operator and enjoy raw chews. My favorite bands are 30M and 20M. I have worked 135 countries using my Icom 7410 with 80 watts. In 2021 I replaced the 7410 with an Icom 7300. For the low bands I have an inverted V at 40 feet and a 3 element tribander at 40 feet for 20M and above. Locally I operate on 2M, 220 and 440. I have been a repeater owner for 224.54 repeater but sold it as I got older and didn't want to maintain it. My hand held radios are capable of DMR and Fusion along with the standard analog FM. I am an avid biker.
