Biography

I am a wheelchair bound amputee that is very independent and goes POTA a lot. I have activated parks in 10 states as of 2025. I got my call sign on December 13, 2022 and made extra class on February 9, 2023. I was hit by a car on my motorcycle when I stopped to help a man on the interstate. That is how I lost my left leg above the knee. I was medically retired as an electronic technician. I have always wanted to get an amateur radio license, so I finally did it after some coaxing from a fellow amputee. Since I became licensed, I joined ARES in multiple counties in Florida and worked in a few shelters for hurricanes. I also worked communications for a lot of trail races, 5K, 10K, half marathons, full marathons, 50K, and 50 milers. I also did a bicycle race from Jacksonville to Daytona. I moved to Norther Kentucky in January and worked communications for the 2025 Flying Pig Marathon weekend. I was also a VE for the Jacksonville, FL Laurel VEC team!

Since moving to Northern Kentucky, I have joined the Northern Kentucky Amateur Radio Club, and the Amateur Radio Emergency Team of Northern Kentucky. I started serving my community when I joined the United States Marine Corps at 17 years old. I will continue to do my best to serve my community as long as I can physically do so. Amateur radio is not only fun hobby, but it is a skill that is needed throughout the community! I may be in a wheelchair, but I can still get out and have fun in the parks and still give back to my community!

Equipment

I have an FT 710 that I use in my motel room. I run an EFHW out the window from the 4th floor and work FT4 and FT8 with that. I sometimes take it with me to do a POTA activation. In my SUV, I have an FT 891 and an ATAS 120 lip mounted to my hood. For POTA ops, I can use the ATAS (I have a selector switch and a 25' coax rolled up in the back of the SUV), a Buddistick Pro, WRC, several antennas from Flatlander Mirrors (you reel them in when you are finished One of them is 40-20-15-10 without a tuner, the other is EFRW 160-6), and an assortment of Shark Hamsticks.
