New to amateur radio but a long time SWL. Electronics trained 40 years ago in the USAF as a metrologist. 50 weeks in Denver tech school. Easy to pass the Technician and General tests but Extra has these new things called integrated circuits. Working through that and hope to pass in amonth or so.
It's a month later and today (April 2, 2016) I passes the Extra exam!
Started with a Kenwood TS-450SAT running Ham Radio Deluxe driving a Zero-Five 10-80 meter vertical 43' antenna.
Now have a Yaesu FTdx-1200 also. Using a B&W VS-1500A antenna tuner for the long wire 160 meter antenna. Using a US Interface Navigator for digital modes. Moved up to an AL-811H amplifier to complete my 100 country quest.
