Biography

Hello Hams from the Arctic! My name is Jeff and I live about 100 miles south of Fairbanks, Alaska USA near a small town called Delta Junction. We are in Interior Alaska and about 200 miles west of the Canada (Yukon) border. Delta Junction is at the end of the Alaska Highway, constructed during World War II to ferry military supplies from Canada and the Lower 48 to Alaska. If you follow the Alaska Highway as far as it goes north, that's Delta Junction. Our climate here is Continental, with very cold winters (-40 to -50F / -40C) and warm summers up to 75F or 80F normal. My QTH is out of town on the Tanana River. You can see the river in the bottom photo to the right. The Tanana is born in the Eastern Alaska Range and runs north to the Yukon River. The Tanana is known as a wild river and has runs of salmon, whitefish and burbot, among other species. My family and I homestead and live in a log home on our 8 acres.

I was first licensed in 1989 in Hawaii as NH6VH. I've done a fair share of HF work and I was the Chief of MARS operations for the USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) from 1990 to 1994. I even led a special event station from NNN0CUP (MARS call) after NIMITZ participated in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm in 1991. My next call was N7TBU when I operated for many years in Washington State, USA. After moving to Alaska in 2008 I received the KL2NL call and I've been active on HF and 2M local repeaters. After a stint in Italy for the past 3 years, I'm back in Alaska and active on HF, 2M, 70cm and GMRS with our local React group. 73 de KL2NL!

Equipment

Yaesu FT-991, Yaesu FTM-400DR and an Yaesu FT-2DR handheld. I'm a big Yaesu fan!
