Biography

Greetings from Southwest Virginia!

Thanks for looking me up.

The full name is James Allen Scott Boyd (long name, long story). Most every one calls me Scott. I have found that if I use Scott instead of James when making contacts it confuses some of the people that look me up on various databases as the name Scott is not on my ticket. I got my Tech ticket in December 2008 and I passed my General in May of 2009. I managed to pass my Extra Exam on the last weekend in May 2010. I am a member of the ARRL and an Accredited Volunteer Examiner with both W5YI and ARRL. I am currently the Secretary of the Russell County Amauer Radio Club and maintain their website at http://www.russellcoarc.org

I have a strong interest in antenna modeling and construction and I am constantly looking for something to build. I have currently built and used random wires, dipoles, bazookas, ground planes, helical wound verticals,Windom, Delta loop, Yagi and Moxon antennas. My current project is constructing multi-element yagi antennas from old tv antennas and experimenting with center loaded dipoles. Photos of some of the projects can be seen at http://www.russellcoarc.org.

Equipment

My radio are a Yeasu FT-857-D. 160m to 70cm with 100 watts HF and 50 watts VHF, powered by a Kenwood KPS-15 power supply and a Yaesu FT-DX 1200. Tuners are a MFJ-929 and a MFJ-969. My antennas are a Hustler 5-BTV vertical (homebrew modified to cover 17m and 12m making it a 7-BTV), a home brew 3 band fan dipole for 40- 20-15, a home built Windom inverted "V", a home brewed 6 meter 3 element yagi and a fixed 2 element wire beam for 20 meters, all up about 30 ft. I also have a Moxon 2 meter beam and a 10 element homebrew yagi for 70cm.
