Biography

My Ham radio story all started back in WWII, when my Great Grandpa (VE3OZH/SK) was in the Army, decoding and sending messages over the air. Fast forward 80 years and I meet another Ham who gets me interested in what my (late) Grandpa had done, and shows me that I can what he did (radio) as a hobby. So I studied and studied until I got my Technician Class license. For about two months I was satisfied with the two metre band and other vhf/uhf frequencies. That's when I decided I wanted to get my General Class license, so I studied and studied and then stopped studying for no apparent reason, and then a few months later, I once again took up my study and on October 15, at Sedalia, Missouri's SparkFest, I got my General Class license.

As of February 2023, I am also a system control for the YLSystem Young Hams on Saturday afternoons at 2000z on 14.332mhz.

My current hamshack includes:

6 Baofeng UV-5Rs (all gifts from class leftovers)

2 Baofeng UV-5R+s

1 really old HT

1 Yaesu FT-897 (gift from Mario K2ZD and YLSystem)

On the subject of my hamshack, I would have to be honest and correct myself. I have not one, but TWO hamshacks! The reason that I have two is because my original hamshack can't compensate HF, (it's too far from any place that I could ground it and too far from windows to hang an antenna out. Also, I don't think that Mom and Dad would take it too kindly if I started making holes in the walls) so I made another hamshack in the basement for my Yaesu.

My ham family:

Great Grandpa VE3OZH/SK

Great Great Uncle Ray (Great Grandpa's Brother) VE3MGC (previously VA3RZ)

Great Great Uncle Walt (Great Grandpa's other brother) VE3OED/SK

Papa VE3HZO

Grandma VE3CRJ

Great Aunt Lynda VE3ATJ

And then me KF0JFQ

Great Grandpa had three more brothers who were hams who are now SK and their callsigns are taken.

So much ham talk on my page! Do I have a life outside of my radio? Yes. Sometimes. I spend a lot of time doing schoolwork. My favourite subject this year is my writing course. I love writing stories, poetry, and plays! I also spend a lot of time playing my violin that a good friend gave me. I also like to go hiking, canoeing, camping, making small wood trinkets, giving speeches, listening to people talk, spending time with friends and family, and so many other things that of I were to write them all down here, your eyes will hurt by the time you finished reading.

That's all for now! Hope to hear you on the air soon, and check my page often because it is sure to have some new and exciting news pretty quick.

Worked DXCCs:

Equipment

Baofeng UV-5R+ x2
Stone-age HT that I can't tell the brand (really great radio, though!)
Yaesu FT-897D
Laptop, Samsung phone and tablet (for RHR and Echolink)

DX Code Of Conduct

dx code of conduct small logoI support the "DX Code Of Conduct" to help to work with each other and not each against the others on the bands.
