| Biography Wanting to start into this wonderful hobby since I was a kid. Was introduced to amateur radio by my father who worked with his ham buddies to connect our foreign exchange student to her parents who lived in Campinas, Brazil (1965). The ham buddies encouraged my pursuit of a license by helping me to begin learning code. My father encouraged me with Heathkit projects - from crystal and clock radios to stereos and color TVs ultimately to transmitters/receivers for his ham buddies. BUT...high school got in the way of that pursuit so my interest became idled. One day, after finishing a military career and defense contracting, my wife pops off with "Hey, if the balloon goes up, I want to be able to talk to my daughter in Kansas." What an opening (excuse?) for getting my license and beginning the path to become a ham operator!
