Biography

My first experience with two way radio was in 1954 when I was a radio operator in the Communications Platoon, Headquarters Company, 126 Infantry Division, Michigan National Guard. While serving in the National Guard I went to Calvin College and graduated from Michigan State University with a BS in Civil Engineering. I worked at Exxon, Bayway Refinery and later for Control Associates, Inc. and raised a family. Upon retirement we empty nesters moved to North Carolina and I became a volunteer EMT. In addition I obtained certification from the National Association of Search & Rescue (NASAR) as a SARTECH II. I taught First Aid, CPR, AED, and Wilderness First Aid for the American Red Cross.Copy

My oldest son Rich N0OHO was interested in radios at an early age and when he became a teenager he obtained his novice license. I was going to do it with him but the demands of career and family just didn't leave the time to master the code. He went on to college and now has his amateur extra and is a consultant for maintenance of commercial radio stations. The picture to the right shows Rich and his younger brother disecting the guts of an AM-FM radio at a young age.

Now I have retired again from all of that and moved to Red Hook, NY where I hunt, fish and am a member of the Dutchess County Medical Reserve Corp., Neighbors Gun Club and the Hudson Valley Woodcarvers. After my first attempt over 50 years ago I have finally passed my Technician Amateur Radio Exam on June 2, 2018. I am now a member of the Overlook Mountain Amateur Radio Club (OMARC) and regularly hang out on their Overlook Mountain Repeater at 146.805 Mhz, PL 103.5, Offset -0.6 Mhz., http://omarcclub.org
