Biography

My first radio was a crystal set, built at age 6 with my grandpa, Peeps. It produced music out of thin air with NO power source. My passion for radio, and electronics grew by building kits from Dynaco and Heathkit, reading the Lafayette Radio catalog cover to cover, building projects from Popular Electronics. Like many hams, I played with CB in its day.

I got my General ticket, and started working 2 meter and 70cm local repeaters on a 5 watt HT in May of 2013. August 2013, ham-friend George, N2ELC, helped install a Diamond X300A antenna for a Kenwood TM-V71... repeaters galore opened up. Ham radio friends, ( http://www.splitrockara.org ) helped me "slingshot" a 135' Buckmaster 7-band, off-center fed wire dipole to feed a Kenwood TS-590 in May 2014.... the HF world opened up...February 2015 added an Elecraft KPA500 linear.

So- I'm just getting my feet wet as the saying goes....So many hams have shared their knowledge... everyone knows something...and that is one of many things that makes ham radio fun!

Ham radio interests are: rag chewing, Dx-ing, and learning more. Other interests include music, photography, sound engineering, I.T., boating, scuba diving, my dental practice, and most of all, my wife and 3 children.

73, Steve.
