Biography

FOR DIRECT QSL:PLEASE SEND A SASE

Although I was licensed since 2000 I rarely used my gear for tx.I did a lot of shortwave listening but was tied up in other interests. But now I am back into the hobby and excited to be here.Hope to hear from you!Nothing Special about my station but here it is.A Maxcon OCF Dipole for 80 40 20 17 12 and 10 meters, up at about 37ft.I can tune up on 30 meters and 15 meters as well.My Cushcraft AR-270 2meter,70Cm antenna, and my Horizontal loop AO-50 for 6 Meters by Par Electronics. My base station is a Kenwood TS2000--I got the last one at DX Engineering. My Icom 706MK2G doubles as a portable and I use it for AM on the HF bands because it can run 40 Watts.I play around with FT-8, SSTV and RTTY-when the contests are running. On HF it's alot of CW,but I do enjoy a bit of SSB.Second to that is working the Satellites. I also Like VHF and UHF using VOIP and do take part in local QSO's.

Update:April 2022

I have Acquired a few boat anchors-Heathkits 401/301 rigs.Heathkit DX60 for AM, and a Kenwood TS 530 hybrid rig.I also got a better Cootie key,the W1SFR which is very nice.It can be used as a single paddle keyer as well. After reading an article in QST about Navy keys I ended up getting a Czech RS31,TKF key and a Navy Flameproof Bendix. All of them needed a good cleaning, new wire and a jack and know they all work well.I also got another bug,The Hi-mound BK100 "coffin" bug.I was intrigued by the look-hihi.I had to make a cover for it which didn't come out well.Although it was my first attempt but it works.Since then I learned some better techniques and may give it a try again sometime. In this last year many hams have helped answering countless questions,Most notably N1AOB, Steve has helped me with pretty much everything Ham radio and other technical questions. John, N2FYA got me going on the Satellite and answered many emails, both have been generous with there patience and time.I upgraded and got a Yaesu FT817 QRP rig.I use it with my attenuator and have gotten down to 70Mw but it is not easy. On the opposite end of the spectrum I ended up getting an Ameritron ALS600 amp and to go with it a Heathkit SA-2060.So I suppose my ham station has grown quite a bit.I am trying to make up for lost time:).This past spring I got a 160M Shortened dipole from Hy-Power and have been enjoying the band. When the Condx. are OK I have had some decent DX into Europe at 100W.I'm finally building my satellite omni antenna and should have it up soon.

NOTE:If anyone needs a LOTW confirmation feel free to email me.I don't routinely upload logs.
