Biography

I first obtained my General Class License in 1958 when I was in the 7th Grade. Later in life I obtained a PhD in Sociology which enabled me to secure a career as a Senior Technical Architect. Since I retired in 2007, I have continued my research into the connection between ideology and political theory. A Lesson in Science and History is a summary of my work thus far.

I took the pictures below in the United States and Europe. I have put many of my pictures on the Barry Wright YouTube Channel. There is an amateur radio playlist there as well. The most important video on it is: The W0DRL Recordings - Amateur Radio UHF Propagation 1960s - 1970s. My favorite band is 432 MHz. I work eme and tropo. Meteor scatter is also possible on 432 MHz but there seems to be no interest.

There is a separate website for all my radio interests and activities: KA7V Amateur Radio. It is a science and technology blog. Things there that should be read by today's amateur radio operators are: Parallel Resonance Electromagnetic Waves A changing magnetic field will create an electric field in space.

I also had an early interest in astronomy and I have written on that subject as well, Here are some exambles: Stellar Populations Part I Stellar Populations Part II The Main Sequence.

I believe the 1980s PBS television series Cosmos hosted and developed by Carl Sagan and others was the last attempt to educate the public about the world we live in, namely the spiral galaxy known as the milky Way. How something is perceived by an observer is based on the observer’s inertial frame of reference. This conclusion is based on Einstein’s theory of Special Relativity. The laws of physics are the same everywhere and you cannot discover anything about a situational moment from its mere observation. This is especially true from observing human behavior.

The three greatest physicists of all time were Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein and James Maxwell. It is too soon to say if there any physicists alive today that are as profound as Newton, Einstein and Maxwell. The work of James Maxwell is especially important to radio communication as he discovered and expressed mathematically the laws of electromagnetic radiation.

I don't know what to say about the United States. See for example Steve Kerr Comments on the Tragic Shooting in Uvalde, Texas. There19 fourth grade children murdered. Also see the points made by Jon Stewart: The Daily Show - Charleston Church Shooting. I write this in November 2022 and it still goes on. There is something wrong with the culture of the United States and it needs to be changed. Here is a excellent address by the superintendent of the U.S. Air Force Academy: Hear Lt. Gen. Jay Silveria's full speech about racism at the Air Force Academy. You can find all of these videos on YouTube.

When I acquired my Amateur Extra Class License there was a Morse Code requirement of 20 WPM. Morse Code - No Problem. But all of that is gone now. See for example Maybe Nothing Will Save Amateur Radio. At present I am operating CW exclusively. If you wonder what I think of K1JT's software you may read Joe Taylor's Amateur Radio. The SM2CEW's Website is also excellent. You have to understand that it took the collusion of the ARRL, now a corporate lobby, to create this situation. It is so elaborated here: It Seems to Us “Morse” by David Summer. The title of this op-ed should be changed to: "This is what we are going to do to fulfill our lobbying objectives."

I do not respond to eQSLs or Email QSLs and I no longer accept QSLs via Bureau. It is too expensive.

The easiest and least expensive way to confirm a QSO with me is through ARRL LoTW. All contacts including those made in contests are in LoTW. You may also QSL by direct mail or CLUBLOG OQRS.
