Biography

Became involved in Amateur Radio after my dad , John KA2VZX passed away . I took my tech test and applied for my dads call under the vanity call sign program. In January of 2007 I took both my General and Amateur Extra exam . Equipment includes the following , Kenwood TS-930SAT , with Piexx board , K6IOK PS upgrade , K6IOK PA upgrade , SP-930 speaker , Kenwood SM-220 station monitor, Kenwood TS-520S with a DG-5 digital readout ,VFO-520S , SP-520 speaker, AL-811 HF Amplifier , Dentron MT-3000A 160-10 meters legal limit antenna tuner , a set of Heathkit twins SB-401 , SB-301 80-10 meters. I also have a Hammarlund HQ-110 w/ 6 meters , in near mint condition I might add , and an LP-100A watt meter. Antennas include homemade G5RV , at approx. 40 ft., Hy-Gain TH3 MK3 Tribander at 40 ft. on a Rohn crank-up tilt over tower, there is also a ground mounted Cushcraft R7 vertical antenna that covers 40-10 meters. For VHF operation there is an Icom IC-251A All Mode for 2 meter operation, with a Mirage B1016 160 watt amplifier, on 6 meters there is an Icom IC-551 All Mode with a Mirage A1015G 150 watt amp. For 432 operation there is an Icom IC-451A , coupled with a Mirage D1010 100 watt amp,and a K2RIW 19 element 432 yagi at 45 feet, coupled with a Down East Microwave mast mounted LNA, VHF antennas include Cushcraft 124WB FM Vertical beam, at 62 ft., a Cushcraft A14810S horizontally polarized for SSB on 2 meters, at 57 ft., and a Hy-Gain VB-66DX 6 element horizontal beam for SSB, on 6 meters, at 52 ft. I am the past president of The Long Island Amateur Radio Simplex Club. I am active on all bands , chasing DX on SSB , RTTY , and PSK31. QSL via LoTW , e-QSL.cc .
