Biography

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Mark 8:36-37

Welcome to my page. I am located on Moose Island, Eastport, Maine, the most easterly city in the USA on the border with New Brunswick, Canada. In fact I was born in St Stephen, NB, Canada, but grew up on the island of Eastport and enjoyed dual citizenship. I have been a ham since the early 80's. I was very active on 10m SSB during the late 80's into the 90's but I fell by the wayside along with the10 meter band. In 2020 I renewed my interest in Ham Radio after a 15 year or so absense and have been very active in digital modes, particularly FT-8. I already have WAS, DXCC, etc. from years past, but am now working toward the same goals with FT-8 (and some SSB) on all bands from 10m to 160m. I have also resumed county hunting.

I use QRZ, Logbook of the world, and HRD Log. I will gladly return a QSL card for anyone who needs one. No SASE needed.

Graduated from the University of Maine in 1965 with a BS degree in Civil Engineering. Employed in construction of a large power plant in Kansas and later as office engineer for the construction of Vermont Yankee Nuclear power station. Moved back to Maine where I was involved with Georgia Pacific Corp in capital construction of several plants and expansions in Me, LA, and VT. Managed an OSB plant, power plant and Stud mill in Maine until retirement,
My wife, Deen, and I have 3 grown children, 11 grand children, and 8 great grandchildren.

Equipment

My station consists of a Yaesu FT-857D, an LDG Z-11 Pro II Tuner, and two Wolf River Coils vertical antennas. I also use the FT-857D as a mobile rig and the ATAS antenna on my F-250 truck. UPDATE 1/10/2023 I just installed a 160 m Inverted "L" antenna up 40 ft vertically and 160 ft long horizontally with a K2AV supended FCP under it, fed with an isolation transformer. I am in the proces of hooking up a Loop On ground antenna, 60 ft square, for receiving 160 meter signals while transmiting on the Inverted "L".
