Biography

I was originally licensed in 1972 at age 14 as WN8MKL. Passed my General in 1973 and became WB8MKL. Moved from West Virginia to Virginia in 1975, passed my Advanced in 1976 and became WA4QWG. Passed my Extra in 1994 and became AD4SI. I then received my vanity call of K8SI in 1997.

I currently have a modest little setup with a Kenwood TS-890S into a Multiband Doublet with an MFJ-993B auto-tuner. For VHF/UHF, I have a pair of CS-800D's, one in the shack and one in the mobile for analog and DMR. I also have a couple of DMR handhelds, a BTEC 6X2 and a TYT MD-UV380.

I mostly like to rag-chew on HF phone and CW, and I enjoy chasing a little DX on occasion. I also dabble in digital modes on HF, with FT8 being my latest obsession.

Lastly, the final honor of a QSO is a QSL. I am now working on DXCC endorsements, plus I just enjoy exchanging them. However, due to low return rate, I now only answer QSL's rather than soliciting them, unless you are a new country for me. If you want a QSL, send a QSL, either direct or via Bureau, and I will respond in kind, no SASE/IRC's required, although they are appreciated. Otherwise, LoTW is preferred.

Worked DXCCs:

Equipment

Kenwood TS-890S, MFJ-993B tuner, Begali Simplex Pro paddle. Antenna is a Multiband Doublet. Connect Systems CS-800D into a dual-band vertical for VHF/UHF.

DX Code Of Conduct

dx code of conduct small logoI support the "DX Code Of Conduct" to help to work with each other and not each against the others on the bands.
