Biography

Thanks for visiting my page!

DX and propagation fascinate me the most about the hobby. I became a ham in 2017. You may have worked me under the old callsign KN8FEL which was a vanity I chose to represent my last name, but I later shortened it to just K8EL after getting my extra class.

I do a variety of different bands and modes. I haven't honed in on just one aspect of the hobby yet. You will find me on FT8 frequently from 80 meters all the way up to 2 meters. I am currently learning CW and hope to become proficient. I am an AMSAT member and enjoy working satellites. You may be able to catch me on 146.52 where I enjoy meeting local hams.

My base transceiver is an Icom IC-7300 for HF and a Yaesu FT-818 for VHF/UHF. I have various other radios like the Icom IC-2730A for mobile, a Yaesu FT-2980R for 2 meter monitoring when I'm around the house, an Icom IC-7200 for portable operation, and a Kenwood TH-D74A HT.

The 80 and 40 meter antenna is an inverted vee wire, and the 20 through 10 meter antenna is a Cushcraft MA5B mounted on my tower. I have a vertical Diamond and a horizontally polarized Create log periodic for VHF/UHF mounted on my roof. The top of the tower contains a TV antenna. I've always enjoyed DXing the broadcast TV and FM bands. It's fun monitoring for tropospheric ducting and e-skip.

QSL: I upload all logs to LoTW and QRZ. I enjoy receiving QSL cards. If you send me a direct QSL card, I'll send one back, no SASE necessary. I do not do bureau QSLs.

73!
