Biography

I was licensed in 1956 as KN6MYC (novice class) 9 months later I passed my general test. I am currently and extra class, K6MYC. In 1964, I went to work for the Stanford University Radar astromomy site. My two bosses were W6UGL,(SK) H.Taylor Howard and K6CLM, Bill Faulkerson, now AH8A in American Samoa. Tay Howard wrote "The Moonbounce Problem, 28 MHz and up" in 196? and that is how my intersting EME started. Dec.31, 1964 I made my first EME QSO with VK3ATN. I have been hooked ever since.

In 1971 Two Friends, K6HCP and K6KBE and I started KLM Electronics with a combined investment of $500! In 1983 KLM was sold and broken into pieces. MFJ ended up with the Mirage SS amp line. In 1984, My wife and I started M^2 Enterprises (M^2 = Mike, K6MYC and Myrna, K6MYM) (later Incorporated to M2 Antenna Systems Inc.).

Currently M^2 operates in Fresno,CA in a 20,000 Sq. ft. facility and all our products are made right there in Califoria, USA. My son Matt K6KIG runs the company and is currently active on VHF and soon on HF. I continue to do the antenna designs for amateur radio, commercial and government customers. We have recently added a product line dear to my heart, light weight solid state VHF amplifiers for 6M and 2M. The RF designs were done by my old business partner and close friend, Ken Holladay, K6HCP, founder of KLM, Mirage and RF concepts SS amps. We are currently working on a 2KW+ SS HF amp as well as amps for 222 and 432 MHz. We have added a new line of 2M preamps, Sequencers, high power RF relays and IQ+ relay/Preamp tower package.

My wife and I live on a 40 acre ranch in the foothills of the San Juaquin Valley, just north of Fresno Ca. I have 6 towers with HF yagis from 80-10M yagis and 3 towers with 6M, 2M, 222 MHz, 432 MHz, and 1296 Yagi EME arrays. Soon I will be intalling my 5M dish on our new pedastal for 1296 EME and up. I am very active on all bands and have achieved DXCC on 6M and 2M, 432 and 1296 are next!

My last and most sucessful VHF DXpedition was to St. Maarten (PJ7) where I used our new 2M SS amp and two 2MXP20 Yagis making 246 EME QSO's with 46 countires! In past years I have been very luck to put several rare DX location on the air like YV0 (Aves Is.) and Papua New Guinea, to mention just a few.
